December recipes

It’s snowing! We’re decorating our tree today and making my favorite hot chocolate. Grace and I are crafting baking soda ornaments again this year. This is our baby Luke’s first Christmas, which makes this year extra sweet.

Below, you’ll find a collection of healthy recipes to carry us through December and the holiday season. Cooking with fresh, seasonal produce is generally more delicious and more affordable, so it’s a true win-win.

If you’re shopping for an easy gift, I hear that my cookbook makes a great one. It’s on sale for under $14 right now, and it’s also now available in a cool spiral-bound format that lies flat.

If you’d like to round out your gift, consider adding my favorite measuring spoons or candle (affiliate links), or take advantage of amazing deals on a Vitamix blender or Staub dutch oven (the 4-quart is a modest size for small batches of soup, and the 7-quart is perfect for a big family).

Stay well, eat well, and happy holidays!Continue to the recipe...

It doesn’t feel like it yet, but October is here! I’m looking forward to cooler weather and Halloween, of course, but I love these gloriously comfortable sunny days the most.

We spent the month of September snuggled up with our baby boy, Luke. When I was pregnant, I was so nervous about managing two children that I forgot how magical holding a newborn can be. He slept well last night for the first time (here’s to hoping!). For anyone who’s counting down to a new baby, I rounded up our most useful baby products here.

As the weather cools down, let’s mark the time with warm apple crisp, hearty chili, and wholesome pumpkin bread. You’ll find more seasonal recipes to enjoy below, and I have a full line-up of new recipes coming your way this fall.

Apples

Trust me, no one will suspect that these fluffy cinnamon apple muffins are healthy! cookieandkate.com

“Made them this morning with one Granny Smith and one Macintosh. Your recipe is fantastic! The rose so well, made a beautiful crust and were nice and tender inside. Taste was great!” – Pierre

what to cook this september

This post is coming to you late because our baby boy arrived early! We’re home and doing well after a surprisingly swift delivery. His name is Luke, he has a full head of dark hair like mine, and we’re so happy he’s here. I feel like my heart might burst from watching Grace love her baby brother. Now that we have the house in functional order (he was exactly three weeks early), I’m trying to soak up these fleeting newborn moments.

September is when summer and fall produce collide at the farmers’ market. It’s the best of both worlds, which is why this list is a long one. I propose that we make good use of all the tomatoes, corn and peaches while we still can. I’ll be back with new recipes when I can find the time!

Crisp Apple & Kohlrabi Salad

Crispy Apple & Kohlrabi Salad

Gluten free and easily vegan

“I made this salad last night ahead of time, and added the toasted seeds and cheese (gruyere) at serving time. It’s so delicious! I also traded the tarragon for mint. I will use this recipe whenever I get kohlrabi in my CSA box. Thanks!” – Erin

This month, farmers’ markets are exploding with goodness. Fortunately, much of the produce growing now doesn’t need much cooking, if at all. Our garden tomatoes are almost ripe, and I’m looking forward to making as many Caprese salads and burrata salads as I can.

You could say I’ve entered full-blown “nesting mode” since I can’t quit scrubbing the baseboards in our 100-year-old home (my husband thinks I’m nuts, but they look brand new), and tackling some home and blog projects.

Stay tuned for more new recipes soon, and in the meantime, you’ll find an abundance of fresh seasonal recipes below.

What to cook this July

July is here! Let’s hear it for long summer days and warm summer evenings. I’m feeling super motivated, so I’m moving full speed ahead with recipe development and decorating our baby boy’s nursery. I have an ambitious content calendar for the rest of the year, and I surely won’t be able to publish all the recipes on the list, but we’ll see what I can do.

I hope you have fun plans for Independence Day—it’s one of my favorite holidays. Please be safe out there. If you’re looking for Fourth of July recipes, you’ll find many options below. Filter and browse all Fourth of July recipes here.

This month offers a long list of in-season produce, including berries, corn and watermelon. Before I go, here are a few of my favorite products that are making the summer heat more bearable (they’re affiliate links):
